A Learning Experience

So here is what happened in the first 3 1/2 months of 2016 in no particular order.

  • I moved across town into a larger space
  • I was sick
  • I changed shifts at my job
  • My job changed entirely
  • I went to four conventions
  • I did programming for three of them
  • I survived the Mildly Annoying Katsucon Fire of 2016

So yeah, I’ve been busy. Unfortunately, that has led to little time to maintain this space, but here is your catch-up report.

Anime Mini 2015
It was small, but fun. Wheel of Fortune debuted and we had a giant winner who also drove away with a brand new (model) car.

Anime USA 2015
Had I known that a lot of people had flaked due to it being Halloween, I would’ve made a better effort about submitting programming. That being said, I was first aware of it in July and submissions closed soon thereafter. Still a very interesting show helping out Megaroad Toys and very useful, too.

Setsucon 2016
I stayed offsite, and it was great. I wish the Penn Stater and the Toftrees Golf Resort swapped locations, because I like having access to a major shopping center.  Also, I learned that the Miraculous Ladybug fandom very much exists, and that’s awesome.

In terms of programming, the annual appearance of Name That Tune did not disappoint. There was also another go-round of Wheel of Fortune, and it was also the debut of “Are Cons Doomed? (DUN DUN DUNNNN) which received a larger than expected crowd.

Katsucon 2016
Again, helping with Megaroad. Loved the cheap gas and the offsite hotel in Alexandria (Residence Inn).

Zenkaikon 2016
I’m now 3 in a row with offsite hotels—the one on Greenfield was next to a very excellent sushi restaurant. I was able to dust off “Anime For Adults (Not Adult Anime)” for the Lancaster crowd, as well as see two game shows  run by someone else that show what happens when you have good contestants (Pyramid) and not-so-good (Password). The rest of the time was spent hanging out with my friend Brian the Fuzzy, who is now contributing to the podcasts Inciting Incident and NXT Breakdown.

Tekko 2016
In marching band parlance, the Home Show. It went off better than expected, with a fun Improv, the return of “The ‘How To Make a Panel’ Workshop” as well as “Are Cons Doomed?” Of course, Brian and I reconvened for the next chapter of “Anime Fight Club.” At some point, they’re going to have to book a larger space for that, or at least one that’s climate controlled.

The one thing that was kind of humbling was that people were asking me for business cards. Of course, I had left them behind, so if you are looking for one, just look up :3

Also, I’m proud to say I have launched a Facebook page in the hopes of parlaying everyone’s excitement into something more. We’re not even a third of the way through 2016, so the best is yet to come. There’s a lot of exciting things both definite and in potentia, so stay tuned.
